Every photoshoot is a shared human experience. What is art if not a means to connect with other human beings?

The Importance Of Making Art Work

Stephan Partipilo June 23, 2025

I just watched Last Week Tonight with John Oliver's latest episode about "A.I. Slop". I'm so thankful someone finally spoke up about it.

Previously I have talked about Where those A.I. apps and websites get their archives from: your Facebooks, your instagrams, stock image sites including Gettys, and any website or platform that is visual arts based. It's called "A.I. Scraping". Last Week Tonight previously did a video about it and even mentioned how Gettys was/is in a law suit against Midjourney.

My photography is NOT A.I. generated. I do NOT want the A.I. companies using my works for their own archives for free. Paywalls not only enable an artists fan base to support them via crowdfunding, they also protect an artists works from A.I. scrapers, as well as any would-be haters who would be emotionally triggered by the works.

With much of the internet and social media being categorized and organized by machines, terms and conditions, and AI algorithm technology, there's no way the Deftones would be able to say they are not "nu-metal" today. The machines do not bend. The machines do not make exceptions. Machines are not human beings capable of thinking different.

Beyond this conflict, we all do photography, music, and the arts, for the same reason : because the real world is HARD. A photoshoot between two or more human beings, coming together to create something, is a shared experience. A band of musicians coming together in a garage to make noise is a shared human experience. A film crew coming together to make a short film or a Netflix series is an experience.

What's wrong with liking and enjoying the experience? What's wrong with having a good time? You should absolutely love what you do, or else why are you doing it? The AI companies disagree. The CEO of that AI company in the video said he thinks most musicians don't enjoy making music. Do you think I'd be doing my photography business since 2015 if I didn't love and have a sincere passion for this craft and trade art form?

All of that passion, all of the "human-to-human" and "person-to-person", shared life experience is gone when A.I. is generating everything instead of us.

The point of art work was never the results. It was never the content itself. It was the process. That process is a human experience at best. It's a shared experience between the people involved in the process, and between the people who view or experience the results of that process afterward.

The value of that process is being challenged by the station of AI generators. The freedom to think differently about ideas is being challenged by (censorship) the constantly changing Terms and Conditions and restrictive content policies of each and every website, platform, social media, search engine, etc.

NOW is the time for all artists and content creators to create like your lives depend on it. MAKE STUFF. Make garbage. Take that idea you had 10+ years ago that you thought nobody would like and make it happen. GO OUTSIDE!

Do it because it's fun. Do it because you love it. Do it because you can. Not for likes, clicks, or views (clout chasing). Not even for money. Do it because art is life and the machines want to steal that from you. Are you going to let them?

A.I. can make art, but it cannot create the human experience, and it is that human experience, social connectivity in the real world, that makes art work so important.

I have always said : "the best part about being a t33f photographer is NOT the t33f, but the people you meet". It's more relevant than ever.

Even now with scammy pervy websites like FF and OF that dominate the mainstream thinking about t33f content, to a point where I cannot even spell t33f correctly/properly or else the algorithm and search engines will misconstrue my work, GO OUT SIDE AND LIVE YOUR LIFE because humanity depends on it. That's how we can rebel against the machines. Don't eat their AI Slop. Support real artists. Support local and small businesses owned by real human beings.

Thank you so much to everyone who has worked with me, supported me, and enabled me to do what I'm passionate about. I hope everyone has a great week, a super fun Summer, and is able to get away from the hardness of the world, take a vacation, and have real shared human experiences, unplug from the machine.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (HBO) has three videos about A.I. They are well worth watching in my opinion. Especially if you are an artist or content creator.
